The Benedictines value books and learning. The library is seen as an important tool in the development of the spiritual life of the monks. Bishop Salvado brought books to New Norcia in 1847 and, ever since, his successors have continued to develop the collection, which is growing and adapting constantly to meet new needs inside and outside the monastery.
The library office is in the general library which is on the west side of Great Northern Highway, opposite the Abbey church. New Norcia Library is a private library, but the general library can be visited during library hours. Much of the religious collection is within the monastery enclosure where public access is not permitted. Books and journals can be borrowed as inter-library loans.
Library hours are Tuesday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.00pm. If you have any queries or require further information, please contact the Librarian Wednesday to Fridays on 08 9654 8018 or email@example.com
