Built circa 1912 as a guesthouse offering accommodation to visitors to the colleges and monastery and also for people travelling through to agricultural areas seeking work.

It was the only privately owned building in New Norcia as a result of an arrangement between the Benedictine Community and the Lanigan family (who still live in the district).

After the Hotel was built as a hostel in 1927, the Lanigans converted part of the building to a general store / post office / telephone exchange.

In 1970 the Monastery re-purchased the building, extensively upgraded it and it is currently a private residence.
