The Benedictines value books and learning. The library is seen
as an important tool in the development of the spiritual life of
the monks. Bishop Salvado brought books to New Norcia in
1846 and the collection has been growing steadily ever since.

The majority of the books are religious with an emphasis on
Roman Catholic theology, monasticism, patrology and scripture.
There is also a large secular collection.
